Nkuke, Uganda Educational Program

The program helps children who are motivated and show a desire to study, but lack school fees. These children include orphans, disabled, those negelected due to gender (mostly boys are preferred to girls), teenage mothers, or those whose parents can only afford to feed them but not pay the small amount for school fees. The selection of the children is by community leaders, school teachers, and the coordinators of this program. As there is a great need in Nkuke, priority will be given to children who demonstrate a commitment to succeed in school. The program serves all qualified children irrespective of religion and/or political differences.
I do not know the exact number but I will make a close estimate. There about 1600 children that would be going to school. Although, about 600 students can afford to go to school, the remaining 1000 can not. The1000 students that can not attend school follow in the following categories.
  1. Primary ( grade 1 through 7) *about 150 students*
  2. Ordinary Level. ( 8 through 11) *about 350 students*
  3. Advanced Level (12 and 13th Grades) *300 students*
  4. Tertiary Institution ( Two year certification students who pass grade 7 and on can academically qualify depending on the desired certification ) *150 students*
  5. University about* 50 students *

New Item: House building in Uganda June 2007

Tibursious and Alissa went to Uganda for a month and with donations from fellow Green Mountain College students, the Larson family, and Mrs. Annie Cruz, and many others, to build two houses for two very poor and elderly ladies. One of these ladies is raising her grandchildren who lost their parents to the AIDS virus. There is a video of this project. If you wish to see it, please contact Tibursious.
